Next Meeting of Morningside Community Council - 16 April

Wednesday 16 April 2008, at 7.30 in the Open Door, 420 Morningside Road.

All residents and traders in the area are welcome at this and all our meetings. Read the Agenda here.

Neighbourhood Partnership - 12 May

The next meeting of the Edinburgh South Central Neighbourhood Partnership will be held on Monday 12 May at 7 pmin the Methodist Central Hall, Tollcross. This is a public meeting open to everyone. There will be a surgery from 6.00 where members of the public can raise particular issues with Council officials.

Craft Fair - 26 April

There will be a Craft Fair in Morningside on Saturday 26th April 2008 at the Columcille Centre, Newbattle Terrace from 10am - 4pm. Entry is Free.

30 Exhibitors will be showcasing a fantastic range of handmade crafts and unique designs, including:
Jewellery, Bags, Textiles, Art, Woodwork, Teddy Bears, Cards, Knitting, Leather & Suede, Candles, Fused Glass, Soft Toys, Accessories and more...!

Edinburgh Airport Resurfacing work - starts 31 March

The airport will use the alternative runway overnight every night from Sunday to Thursday, between the hours of 11pm and 5,45 am. The flight path for this runway crosses the south part of Morningside and some residents may be aware of aircraft noise.

Information will be supplied by BAA through leaflet drops at the end of January and in the middle of March, adverts in the local media and community publications and on their website HERE. There is a 24 hr freephone noise line to call - 0800 731 3397.

On Wednesday 20 February there will be an information evening in South Morningside School, between 6.30 and 8.30. Residents can drop in at any time. Please note this is the same date as the next Community Council meeting, so for anyone planning to come to the Commuity Council we suggest you go early.

The following free newspapers cover part or all of the Morningside Community Council area and provide local news and advertising. All are monthly.

Morningside and Bruntsfield Gazette. Published by Scotsman Publications; features local news, stories and personalities and has a comprehensive events listing. 702 Gazette. A locally produced independent advertising magazine which includes articles of interest and photos supplied by local people, charities, businesses and clubs. There are 5000 copies distributed monthly and 15000 different homes in the area receive a copy each quarter. Action towards re-opening the South Suburban

A petition has been laid before the Scottish Partliament calling for the re-introduction of  local passenger services on the Edinburgh South Suburban Railway. The leader of the City of Edinburgh Council, Jenny Dawe, has expressed her wish for the re-opening. A committee of MSPs is now examining the case.
